WHAT TO EXPECT:
All camps and clinics will offer quality volleyball instruction from our Illinois Heat Club staff and special guest coaches. Our clinics will focus on teaching basic and advanced skills in the areas of serving, passing, setting, hitting, and blocking. Our camps will add in offense/defense concepts and game situations. Players will be split into groups based on experience. Drills will be tailored to fit the level of play of the group to keep it fun and challenging for everyone.
Our camps and clinics are a good way to expose players to volleyball for the first time so they can see if it is something they enjoy. For more experienced players, these camps and clinics will help keep your skills sharp and you in shape before middle school, high school, or club tryouts in the fall. The more players from your school team that attend summer volleyball camps, the stronger your team will be this year. Players who attend our camps will be well prepared for our club tryouts in October.
Space is limited for each camp and clinic. Please ensure you pre-register to ensure your spot in the camps of your choice. Spaces will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. A confirmation email will be sent to you at the email address(es) on your registration form within 48 hours of receipt of your registration to confirm availability in your chosen session. (Registrations received June 14-22 may have a delayed confirmation as our staff will be at Nationals with our Club Teams.)
All camps and clinics will split players into groups based on experience to ensure the right level of drills for each player to have fun and stay challenged. The Skill clinics and camps are designed for players of any skill level or position to attend. The position specific clinics are designed for players that play that specific position. If you are unsure what position you play it would be better for you to attend an “All Skill” clinic or camp.
Some of the following will be covered at each camp or clinic based on the level of the athletes:
Setter Clinic – focus will be on footwork, hand and body position, set location, set selection, transitioning, tempo sets, second ball attacks, jump setting, pulling balls out of the net, and lots and lots of reps.
Middle Hitter Clinic – focus will be on footwork and timing for hitting and blocking, transitioning, hitting tempo sets from offense and serve receive, tipping, shot selection, attacking/blocking the overpass, and lots and lots of reps.
Outside Hitter Clinic – focus will be on footwork for hitting, arm speed, transitioning (block to attack and pass to attack), hitting tempo sets from offense and serve receive, tipping, shot selection, back row passing and attacking, and lots and lots of reps.
Libero/DS Clinic – focus will be on footwork, proper passing form, playing all 3 back row positions, reading hitters, recognizing serves, back row attacking, taking 2nd ball, emergency techniques (dive, roll, etc.), and lots and lots of reps.
All Skill Clinic (grades 1-4) – focus will be on basic development of motor skills needed for volleyball to the level the athlete is ready including: volleyball movement and footwork, jumping, hand-eye coordination. We use a lighter and softer ball and lower the net for the athletes to be successful. All skills will be introduced – serving, setting, passing, and attacking.
All Skill Clinic (grades 5-8) – focus will be on basic footwork and fundamentals of each skill: serving, setting, passing, and attacking. A lighter ball is available and the net will be lower for the beginning athletes in this group.
All Skill Camp (grades 4-8) – focus will be on basic footwork and fundamentals of each skill: serving, setting, passing, and attacking. All Skill Camp (grades 8-12) – focus will be on advanced footwork and fundamentals of each skill for all athletes: serving (different serve types will be taught: float, top spin, jump, and zone serving), setting, passing, blocking and attacking.
